“Large Business Solutions for Small Business Needs"
Remote Back-Up protects a business’ most valuable resource…the data.
How it works....
We operate an off site storage facility for the user data. At the facility, an account is maintained for each user. Each account is protected by a password known only to the user.
The electronic vault system is set up so that at a preset time, usually late at night, the user’s computer automatically wakes up and prepares its data for back-up. It determines which files have been modified since the last back-up, then compresses and encrypts them for security. When the data is ready the computer uses its Internet connection to contact our off-site servers and transmit the data. Our servers verify and store the data. Our servers are mirrored to a remote site, the next morning the back-up is transferred to a second server at a remote location for redundancy. You can rest assured that your data is safe, because it is stored off-site.
Try our service and discover how easy it is to securely back-up your computer to an offsite location.
Q: What if we already have a tape back-up system?
Using a tape back-up system and a remote back-up system offers the best of both worlds. Critical files, like billing, customer contact files and databases can be kept on the remote back-up system. The tape system can be used to create a full back-up of the entire system once or twice a month, instead of on a daily basis. The tapes and drive will last longer and require less maintenance. The benefit of the remote back-up system is a quick and easy way to retrieve critical files and databases without searching through tapes.
Q: What if we already have a zip drive?
We believe that it is not optimal for most users to use a zip drive or other removable disk media for back-up. Remote back-up service is completely automated and has the required file redundancy to protect important data. The only safe way to use a zip drive for back-up is to have three disks and conduct a manual back-up at least three times a week. Also, when using zip disks for back-up, your business may be at risk of disk failure.
Q: How long will a remote back-up take?
Offices with high-speed Internet connections should find this service comparable with tape drives. The initial back-up can take several nights to complete. To simplify the process, we recommend backing up the most important files first and then selecting other files as the back-up progresses. The other alternatives are: we can come to your office and make the initial back-up of your system or have the initial back-up processed over the weekend.
Q: Why are remote back-ups considered more beneficial?
Using only an Internet connection, the data is immediately stored off-site. This method completely eliminates the need for expensive back-up equipment and media. Additionally, since the system is automated manual labor is eliminated.
Q: How secure are remote back-ups?
All files are encrypted using Blowfish or DES (short for Data Encryption Standard) encryption which is selected by the user with their own personal encryption code which is only known by the user of the system. Blowfish encryption has never been broken by a hacker. DES is used by the federal banking system.
Q: What is encryption?
Encryption is basically a mathematical formula that scrambles a data file. And the only way to unscramble a data file is with an encryption code.
Q: Won't you have access to my company records?
None of our staff will have access to your company records unless authorized. Your files are very securely encrypted before being transferred remotely. Only your staff will have the password to the encryption key.
